As Lexington Police promised there was heightened security among the crowds of several hundred fans on State Street Thursday after UK won the 'Sweet 16'. Police were in their riot gear and ready if celebrations got out of hand.
It was a familiar scene for Lexington Police and Firefighters early Tuesday morning as crowds filled the streets near the UK Campus. Police anticipated potential problems in the city, regardless of the outcome of the National Championship game in Arlington, Texas.
Lexington Police said the department had a solid game plan for crowd control around the National Championship. It would be the fourth time during the tournament that officers had to brace for potential game day problems.
After three big wins in the NCAA tournament, fans took over Lexington streets with three big celebrations. With the final game scheduled for Monday night, police and firefighters are bracing for huge celebration.
