Lexington street closures announced ahead of possible post game gatherings

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – As the University of Kentucky men’s basketball team heads into the NCAA sweet 16, the UK Police Department along with the Lexington Police Department is making the campus community aware of parking restrictions placed by the Lexington Police Department on streets near the UK campus.

Parking will be prohibited from 6 p.m Thursday, March 22nd to 6 a.m. Friday March 23rd on the following streets:

  • Limestone -Ave. of Champions to Maxwell
  • Pine Street – Upper to Limestone
  • Jersey Street – Euclid to Maxwell
  • Maxwell – Upper to Limestone
  • Transcript Ave.
  • Journals Ave.
  • Conn Terrace
  • University Ave.
  • Elizabeth St.
  • Crescent Ave.
  • Scott Street (meters in front of Fire Department Station 6)

“No Parking” notices have been issued in these areas, vehicles in violation will be towed at the owners expense beginning 6 p.m. Thursday.

Heavy police presence will be in and around the city to keep people safe during celebrations. The city’s waste management team will also be removing any debris, or furniture along streets prior to the game, to prevent people from setting these on fire during celebrations.
