Fans celebrate after Elite 8 win

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Kentucky fans took to the streets and celebrated after a nail-biting win against Notre Dame Saturday night.

When the game ended around 11 p.m., fans could be seen and heard rushing towards State Street to celebrate.

At the height of the celebrations, Lexington city officials say, there were about 2,000 fans along State Street.

Although police officers could be seen lining the streets in riot gear, the celebrations were fairly calm, the city says.

Many of the officers were even seen taking pictures with many of the fans.

City officials say 13 people were arrested for a mix of alcohol intoxication and disorderly conduct. Eight people were also transported to University of Kentucky Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

"Compared to most weekends in Lexington, there was no substantial increase in run volume for Police & Fire because of the celebration," the city said in a statement.

Kentucky plays Wisconsin in the Final Four on Saturday, April 4th.
