Relief from the Heat: Cooler, More Comfortable Days Ahead

A cold front brings scattered storms today followed by a refreshing drop in temperatures and humidity to kick off August across central and eastern Kentucky.

A Break From the Heat Is On the Way

We’re starting Thursday off on a dry note across central and eastern Kentucky, with early morning temperatures in the low 70s. But change is in the air—literally. A legitimate cold front is working its way south through the Ohio Valley and will move into the Commonwealth today. That front will bring a better chance of scattered showers and storms, especially into the afternoon and evening hours.

Storms This Afternoon, Then a Cooler Pattern Begins

While today’s highs will still be on the warm side—generally in the upper 80s to around 90°—this won’t be another oppressive day like we’ve seen recently. Humidity will still be noticeable, but not unbearable, and we’re leaving behind those triple-digit heat index values that have dominated much of the week. Storms that pop up along the front could bring locally heavy rain and frequent lightning, but severe weather isn’t expected. Once the front passes, we’ll finally get some relief.

August Starts Off on a Pleasant Note

By Friday, cooler and drier air starts to settle in across central and eastern Kentucky. A few scattered storms will still be possible to kick off August, but overall, you’ll notice a big difference in how it feels outside. Afternoon highs will back off into the low 80s, and northeast winds will help usher in a less humid air mass by Friday evening. Friday night into Saturday morning will feel fantastic, with lows dipping into the upper 50s to low 60s—a rarity for this time of year!

Enjoy Saturday – It’ll Be a Beauty

Saturday is shaping up to be one of the nicest days we’ve seen in a while. Expect plenty of sunshine, comfortable humidity, and highs topping out in the low 80s. It’s a perfect day for any outdoor plans, whether you’re heading to the pool, the park, or just enjoying your backyard. Sunday brings a slight uptick in moisture and a few scattered storms, but it won’t be a washout. Temperatures stay seasonable into next week with mid-80s and occasional storm chances as humidity slowly creeps back in.
