Quiet and pleasant weather into the late week

After an active day of weather on Tuesday which featured a line of storms that dropped several tornadoes, caused a good bit of wind damage, and created a few flooding issues, it was a much calmer day across Central and Eastern Kentucky Wednesday. In fact, the front responsible for all the rough weather basically swept all of the heat and humidity we’ve been dealing with the last several weeks out of the region leaving us with more comfortable conditions, especially for the late stages of July.

It should feel pretty fantastic heading into Thursday as cool Canadian high pressure sets up shop over the Ohio Valley. After starting the day with temperatures in the upper 50s, look for plenty of sunshine along with a pleasant northeast wind, which will continue to push dry and less humid air into the commonwealth. Afternoon highs will only reach the upper-70s, which is roughly 10 degrees below average for late July and it should be a great day to spend some time outdoors!

The nice stretch of weather should hang around as we close out the week on Friday as high pressure remains in play as it drifts slowly off to the east. Afternoon highs should jump a few degrees back into the low-80s and the humidity levels may climb slightly but they should still be in the comfortable range for the heart of summer so it looks to be another nice day across Central and Eastern Kentucky. Heading into the weekend, we’ll slowly return to more typical conditions for late July as temperatures climb back into the mid-80s during the afternoon and the muggy air begins to slowly creep back in. It still should be a good day for outdoor activities as any stray shower chance should be confined to our southern counties.

Closing out the weekend and rolling into the final week of July, look for warm and humid conditions to be back on the table with the overall dry pattern hanging around on Sunday as we reach the upper 80s for afternoon highs. We’ll be back into the routine of needing to hydrate properly and slowing it down during the hottest part of the day thanks to the increase in humidity levels. With the warmth and moisture in place along with a few waves of energy sliding through with the upper level flow, scattered showers and storms will be possible early to mid-week so you may need the umbrella on occasion and temperatures stay pretty close to average into the mid to upper 80s for afternoon highs.
