More hot and humid weather on tap to end the week
Scattered storm chances should increase the next few days
Thursday brought more of the same across the region—highs in the low to mid-90s, heat index values pushing 100+, and just a handful of pop-up storms to briefly break up the heat. If it’s felt like we’ve been stuck in a weather loop, you’re not wrong. This early summer pattern has been locked in for several days, and even though the Heat Advisory remains in effect through Friday evening at 8pm Eastern, there are finally a few subtle changes on the way.
Friday: Still Hot, But Storm Chances Tick Up
We’ll squeeze out one more day of intense heat before a weakening ridge of high pressure starts to shift westward. That, along with a weak frontal boundary to our north, will increase our chances for scattered thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Expect highs to land either side of 90°, and while some spots may still feel like 100°, heat indices shouldn’t be as widespread as earlier in the week. Any storm that forms could pack a punch, with gusty winds, heavy downpours, and lightning all possible.
Typical Summer Weekend Ahead
As we head into the final weekend of June, the pattern settles into what you’d expect this time of year—hot, humid, and unsettled at times. Expect afternoon highs in the upper 80s to around 90, with scattered storms popping up during peak heating. You won’t need to cancel any outdoor plans, but keep an umbrella nearby and plan to dodge a storm or two. Sunscreen, water, and a shady spot should remain your best friends if you’re spending time outside.
Refreshing Changes for Early July?
By Monday, we’re back to hot and muggy—but a cold front on Tuesday brings the potential for widespread showers and storms, followed by a drop in humidity and more seasonable temperatures. Afternoon highs by midweek should settle into the mid to upper 80s, but the big difference will be dewpoints dipping into the 60s, making things feel far more comfortable just in time for the Fourth of July holiday stretch.
