Heat and Humidity Push Feels-Like Temps Past 100°
Heat Advisory in Effect Through Tuesday at 8 P.M. as Hot and Humid Conditions Grip the Region
Summer Heat Has Arrived in Full Force
We wrapped up the weekend with a classic dose of mid-summer weather across Central and Eastern Kentucky—hot, humid, and mostly sunny. Sunday’s temperatures soared into the upper 80s and low 90s, with heat index values pushing into the triple digits in some spots. A strong area of high pressure is now firmly in control, and it’s not going anywhere fast. That means we’re in for several more days of intense heat and muggy conditions. A Heat Advisory is now in effect through 8 p.m. Tuesday for much of the region, as heat index values could climb as high as 100–105° in the afternoons.
More Heat and Humidity for Monday
We’ll start off Monday on the warm side with lows only dipping into the low and mid-70s. Sunshine returns quickly, and it won’t take long for temperatures to climb back into the low to mid-90s. Add in dewpoints in the mid to upper 70s, and it’ll feel more like 100 to 105° during the hottest part of the afternoon. A few isolated pop-up showers or storms are possible in the late afternoon, especially in southern parts of the region, but coverage will remain very limited. If you’re outdoors, stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade or A/C, and don’t forget the sunscreen.
Staying Hot Through Midweek
This hot and humid pattern continues into Tuesday and Wednesday with not much change in sight. Highs each day will range from 88–95°. Heat index values will consistently reach or exceed the 100° mark. While a few afternoon clouds and isolated downpours may offer brief relief, most areas will stay dry under this stagnant ridge. Nights will offer little cooling as lows stay in the 70s, especially in city centers.
Looking Toward Late Week
By Thursday and Friday, there are some signs that the dominant ridge could begin to shift slightly west. That might allow for a few more pop-up storms and perhaps a slight drop in both temperatures and humidity—though we’ll still be plenty warm. Heat index values may dip just below advisory levels, but it’ll still feel like mid-summer across the region.
