Flood Watch issued for central and eastern Kentucky until Thursday morning
1-3 inches of rain is on the way with locally higher amounts possible
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – A Flood Watch has been issued for central and eastern Kentucky until 8 a.m. Thursday morning. A widespread swatch of 1-3 inches of rain is likely, with locally higher amounts possible within the stronger thunderstorms. Excessive runoff from torrential may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, and other low-lying and flood-prone areas.
The Weather Prediction Center has included south-central Kentucky in a “Moderate Risk” (Red) for flash flooding. That means that numerous instances of flash flooding are possible in the low-lying creeks/streams and flood prone areas. Lexington and surrounding areas are included in a “Slight Risk” (Yellow) for flash flooding. This is for a more localized threat of scattered high water concerns.

Regardless of where you are at, make sure you are paying close attention to forecast changes throughout the day. There is not only a flash flooding threat, but a Level 3 Severe Risk is out for all of the ABC 36 Viewing Area.
