Dry and pleasant weather to begin the weekend
Afternoon highs will stay below average with lower humidity
After a long stretch of sweltering summer heat, we finally got the break we’ve been waiting for. Friday brought overcast skies and cooler air to Central and Eastern Kentucky, with highs only in the 70s—a rare treat for early August. A steady northeast breeze helped pull in drier air throughout the day, setting the stage for a much more comfortable start to the weekend. Humidity levels are dropping and through Friday evening it will feel noticeably less muggy across the region.
Saturday Feels More Like Early Fall Than Summer
High pressure anchored over the Great Lakes will continue to funnel in refreshing, dry air on Saturday. With skies clearing overnight, morning lows could dip into the upper 50s and low 60s, making for a crisp start to the day. Expect a mix of clouds and sunshine through the afternoon, low humidity, and comfortable highs in the low 80s—perfect weather for just about any outdoor activity. The only exception may be extreme southern Kentucky, where a touch more humidity could allow for a brief pop-up shower, but most of us stay dry and enjoy a spectacular start to the weekend.
Sunday Brings a Slight Uptick in Humidity and a Few Storms
The second half of the weekend still looks pleasant overall. Sunshine will dominate early, and highs will once again reach the low 80s. However, as high pressure slides eastward, moisture will slowly return from the south. This means humidity will tick up just a bit and there’s a chance for a few isolated afternoon storms, especially in southern Kentucky. No washouts are expected—just keep an eye on the sky if you’re spending time outside.
Looking Ahead: More Typical August Weather Next Week
As we head into the first full week of August, we’ll see a slow return to more seasonable summer weather. An upper-level low and moisture creeping in from the Gulf will lead to scattered afternoon and evening storms each day, but widespread rain doesn’t look likely. Temperatures will gradually climb back to the mid to upper 80s, and the humidity will become more noticeable—but not quite as oppressive as last week.
