Daily storm chances stick around the next few days
Afternoon highs should remain comfortable in the low to mid-80s
The first weekend of August gave us a refreshing change of pace with cooler, more comfortable weather across Central and Eastern Kentucky. Highs topped out in the upper 70s and low 80s for most of us, and even though a few spotty showers and storms popped up—mainly in southern and southeastern parts of the state—much of the area stayed dry. For those who did get rain, some brief heavy downpours were possible, but no widespread issues were reported. Monday brought more of the same with some isolated storm activity and very manageable humidity levels.
Tuesday Looks Similar Before Changes Arrive Midweek
The upper-level trough that’s been parked over the Ohio Valley will stick around into Tuesday, keeping a very familiar pattern going. We’ll see partly sunny skies and another round of hit-or-miss afternoon showers and storms, though most spots will stay dry. Temperatures will stay near normal, with highs in the mid-80s, and humidity still on the lower side—definitely tolerable for early August. If you have outdoor plans Tuesday, you should be in good shape, just keep an eye on radar if you’re in one of those isolated storm zones.
Slow Warm-Up with Slightly More Humidity Mid to Late Week
By Wednesday and into Thursday, we’ll begin to warm things up just a bit as that upper trough gradually weakens and shifts east. That will also allow a little more Gulf moisture to creep back into the region, so you may start to notice it feeling a bit more humid. It won’t be anything extreme, but just enough to give it more of a classic summer feel. Highs will return to the upper 80s, and the chance for scattered, mainly afternoon and evening thunderstorms will remain in place. Again, not everyone sees rain, but brief downpours and lightning will be possible where storms do develop.
Looking Ahead to the Weekend
At this point, the weekend is looking mainly dry—especially Saturday—with highs close to 90°. It’s shaping up to be a great couple of days for outdoor activities, though you’ll want to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen if you’re going to be out for long stretches. There’s still some uncertainty about how Sunday plays out as a possible front approaches, which could bring back scattered storm chances, but the timing is still up in the air. We’ll continue to monitor and fine-tune the forecast as we get closer.
