A few dry days on the way into the mid-week
It will feel like summer as afternoon highs top the 90 degree mark
We enjoyed a nice change of pace from the active and unsettled weather pattern we’ve seen the last few weeks across Central and Eastern Kentucky as high pressure built in from the northwest, bringing a quiet Tuesday weather wise. With mostly sunny skies and a light east wind, afternoon highs climbed into the upper 80s which is right around average for this time of year. The east wind helped hold humidity levels down a touch so it was pretty comfortable by mid-July standards to be out and about.
The quiet weather should continue into Wednesday as high pressure camps out over the region with more sunshine expected. Afternoon highs will climb a few degrees into the low-90s for afternoon highs so you’ll definitely be feeling the heat if you are outside for any length of time. While heat index values may stay below the 100 degree mark and we aren’t looking at significant heat like we dealt with a couple of weeks back, make sure and slow it down during the hottest part of the day if you can.
We should be able to squeeze one more main dry day in on Thursday and the hot and humid conditions continue across the commonwealth. Afternoon highs will once again roll into the low-90s with those feel like temps either side of the 100 degree mark during the peak heating of the afternoon thanks to a bit more in the way of humidity around the region. A back door front to our northeast should slide close enough to increase the chances for a few scattered showers and thunderstorms to close out the week on Friday but it shouldn’t be a wash-out with hit and miss storms. Look for more of the same to kick off the weekend on Saturday as what’s left of the boundary hangs over the state, which should generate a few showers and storms, mainly during the afternoon heating as highs reach the upper 80s.
An upper level trough may keep things a touch unsettled for the second half of the weekend and into early next week as a secondary front drops through the Ohio Valley. Don’t cancel any outdoor plans during this window but you’ll definitely want to check the weather before you head out and probably take the rain gear along as additional showers and storms will be possible. Given the moisture around, any storms that fire should be pretty slow moving and could produce some localized heavy rain. As this front weakens out the overall rain chances should begin to back off into Monday and Tuesday with just a few isolated showers possible mainly during the afternoon hours as temperatures back off a few degrees into the mid-80s for highs.
