Another round of warmer air on tap for the mid-week
Highs will dance around the 80 degree mark Thursday and Friday
After another chilly start to the day with temperatures dropping into the 30s and some scattered frost across the eastern part of the state, we enjoyed a significant warm-up and a delightful spring day across Central and Eastern Kentucky. With high pressure drifting eastward and a nice southwest flow kicking in, milder air returned to the area quickly. With plenty of sunshine around, afternoon highs surged into the mid to upper-70s in most locations so it was a fabulous day to be outdoors.
A weak wave of energy and frontal boundary will drop into the Ohio Valley Wednesday essentially grazing our area as it passes through. This should set the northern half of the state up for the potential of a passing shower or two mainly during the morning hours although many locations will end up dry, especially the farther south you go. With a mix of clouds and sunshine, afternoon highs will remain slightly above average with temperatures topping out in the mid-70s once again.
We’ll be back to dry conditions heading into the late week as we see yet another summer-like stretch across the area. With more sunshine and a southwest wind in place, afternoon highs on Thursday will surge into the low-80s so it should feel pretty amazing outdoors so make sure and get out and enjoy it. A cold front will approach from the west as we close out the week with our rain and storm chances increase as we get deeper into the day on Friday. Much of the day should be on the dry side with a few isolated showers and storms possible toward sunset as afternoon highs run back toward the 80 degree mark.
The weekend will feature a more widespread chance of showers and storms, especially on Saturday as the cold front slowly drops into the commonwealth. If you have outdoor plans, you may have to adjust things a bit as we’ll see occasional rain from time to time. With more clouds around along with the scattered showers, afternoon highs will be held in check slightly but should still be pretty comfortable with temperatures topping out in the mid-70s. Much of the data is now showing the majority of Sunday on the dry side as we’ll be in between waves of energy as the front settles to our south. This may be the better day for outdoor plans with highs remaining in the mid-70s before some additional much needed rain chances return heading into early next week as the next wave of energy moves in from the west.
