Keeneland and Stable Recovery Launch Partnership
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Keeneland and Stable Recovery, an addiction rehabilitation program, are teaming up to provide a peer-driven program that offers those in recovery a chance to learn skills needed to work in the Thoroughbred industry.
The Maintenance Cohort at Keeneland will be an extension of the Taylor Made School of Horsemanship’s 90-day program that trains those in recovery to become a entry level horseman in the industry.
In addition to trade skills, the curriculum includes hands-on horsemanship and stable management training, track maintenance and safety procedures as well as equine care and veterinary basics.
“Keeneland is excited to support the life-changing work being done by Stable Recovery,” said Keeneland President and CEO Shannon Arvin. “Stable Recovery and Keeneland share a commitment to social responsibility and to bettering the quality of life in our community.”
Keeneland will provide on-site housing and full-time employment to the cohort, becoming the first racetrack in the country to do so. Eight participants will begin the new initiative in August.
“We are deeply honored and grateful for the opportunity to align with an institution as iconic and respected as Keeneland,” said Stable Recovery CEO Christian Countzler. “This collaboration is a powerful statement about the value of redemption, the healing bond between horses and humans and the shared belief that everyone deserves a second chance.”
More than 100 individuals have graduated from the Stable Recovery program, the brainchild of Taylor Made Farm’s Frank Taylor. Stable Recovery and Taylor were honored with the Special Eclipse Award for service to the Thoroughbred industry at the Resolute Racing 54th Annual Eclipse Awards in January.
