Weather delays welcome home celebration for UK sponsored honor flight

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- A big welcome home planned for Saturday night was postponed due to weather.

A large group of people were all ready to cheer for Kentucky veterans returning from the the first ever university sponsored honor flight, but they had to wait longer than expected.

The flight heading back from Washington, D.C. to the Bluegrass Airport was diverted to Charlotte, North Carolina. It was scheduled to arrive in Lexington two hours later than expected.

The University of Kentucky sent about 70 veterans on an all-expenses paid trip to visit their memorials in Washington, D.C. Saturday.

Many of the veterans on the flight had connections to the university.
