Weather A Challenge For Estill County Firefighters
Firefighters said they got a call around 11:30 p.m. for smoke coming from a vacant home on Dark Hollow Road. When they got there, they saw flames inside and called for more crews.
Derrick Munice, Estill County Fire Chief, said they were able to quickly knock down the fire, but weather slowed them down.
"Basically the response. We had some pretty high winds and hard rain and it took a little longer to get here. But, once we actually got here, it all had passed and died down. So just response time," said Munice.
He also said they originally thought the house had been struck by lightning.
But, the back door had also been kicked in.
Arson investigators will be out at the house later to investigate the cause of the fire.
