Warmth continues as storm chances increase

Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Happy Monday! It was a beautiful weekend as temperatures soared into the 80s on Sunday. That well-above average warmth continues into the start of the workweek. Afternoon highs on Monday will reach the low-to-mid 80s. This warmth will help fuel isolated showers and storms Monday afternoon. A few of those isolated storms could produce damaging wind gusts and large hail. Most of the ABC 36 viewing area has a Level 1 Severe Threat on Monday. Those isolated showers and a few storms will begin to weaken late Monday evening into early Tuesday morning.

Warmth continues on Tuesday with temperatures climbing into the 80s. The daytime on Tuesday will be drier than Monday, although a stray shower or storm can’t be ruled out. However, a line of storms will be possible late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning for central Kentucky. This does pose a low-end severe weather threat. This round of storms will be dissipating and exiting Wednesday morning and will set the stage for our next severe weather threat.

Central Kentucky has a Level 2 Severe Risk on Wednesday. All types or “modes” of severe weather are possible Wednesday afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts will likely be the primary severe threat, with large hail and isolated tornadoes possible. Locally heavy rainfall could result in minor flash flooding as well. This is a day to stay “Weather Aware” and looking for updates from the ABC 36 Storm Team.

We get a bit of a break on Thursday as we will be in between systems. We will be tracking a cold front sweeping through the region late Friday into Saturday. This will drop our temperatures for the weekend, where most areas will struggle to get out of the 50s! Sunday morning could even feature frost advisories with temperatures falling into the upper 30s for some.

Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
