Warm and dry weather on tap to close out the week

Afternoon highs look to climb into the upper 80s

Low-level moisture lingered across the Commonwealth on Thursday, keeping much of Central and Eastern Kentucky mostly cloudy to start the day. A refreshing north breeze kept temperatures in check, with afternoon highs only managing the low to mid-80s. Sunshine did eventually return later in the day as drier air worked its way in, helping us finish on a brighter note.

Friday Shaping Up Nicely
We’ll close out the week on a warm and pleasant note. Friday brings back more sunshine and highs climbing into the upper 80s, just a touch above average for late August. The timing is perfect for the kickoff of the 2025 high school football season. While it may feel a little warm at the start of those early games, conditions should be great overall for players and fans alike. The only exception will be the chance for a stray shower or storm in far Southeastern Kentucky, which should fizzle out by evening.

Weekend Front on the Way
Saturday turns hotter, with highs pushing into the upper 80s and even a few low 90s west of Lexington. A cold front approaching from the northwest could spark a few isolated storms late in the day, but most of the region will stay dry. It’s a great day for outdoor plans, but don’t forget the sunscreen and plenty of water if you’ll be outside for long stretches. That front slides east on Sunday, taking storm chances with it but keeping us warm in the mid-80s as the stage sets for a much bigger pattern change.

A Taste of Fall Arrives Next Week
Get ready—early next week delivers a rare August treat. A strong push of Canadian high pressure will sweep away the humidity and replace it with crisp, refreshing air. Afternoon highs will only reach the upper 70s, while mornings dip into the 50s. Add in sunshine and low humidity, and it’ll feel more like late September than late August. This is one stretch you’ll definitely want to soak up while it lasts!
