Volunteers deliver bottled water to Knox County after pipes break

KNOX COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Cold weather is being blamed for burst pipes throughout Knox County.  Add that water to melting snow and many areas are flooding.

Emergency Management says the flood water is covering the broken pipes, making it nearly impossible for crews to find and repair them.  People have not had clean, running water in their homes in days.

About 750 people are effected by the pipe problem.

The American Red Cross is lending a hand and delivering bottled water to people who are stranded in their homes because of snow covered roads.

So far, about 4,500 bottles of water have been delivered.  Volunteers say they intend to continue supplying water until the pipes have been fixed.

Emergency management says crews are taking the situation day by day but the water tanks have been refilled, meaning as soon as the pipes are fixed, water should be back to the homes.
