Veterans to receive heroes’ welcome Saturday in Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Veterans from World War II, Korea and Vietnam will receive a flag-waving heroes’ welcome home Saturday night at Lexington’s Blue Grass Airport following an ‘Honor Flight’ to Washington, D.C.
Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives joined with Honor Flight Kentucky to sponsor the flight for 68 veterans.
While spending Saturday in Washington, D.C., the veterans will visit the World War II, Korean and Vietnam War memorials on the National Mall, as well as memorials dedicated to those who served in the Air Force, the Women’s Memorial and 9/11 Memorial in Arlington, Virginia.
The day will include a visit to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery.
The public is invited to welcome the veterans on their return, which is scheduled for 9:00 p.m., Saturday, September 16, in the main terminal at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington.
