UPDATE: Standoff in Floyd Co. over, suspect in custody
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WTVQ) – An hours-long standoff with a suspect in Floyd Co. has ended.
The suspect, 28-year-old Robert Powers, is now in police custody. Officers say it started with a vehicle pursuit that turned into a foot chase last night just after 9:30 p.m. in Prestonsburg. State
police say they were called after a Prestonsburg Police Officer Adam Dixon was shot during that foot pursuit.
State Police say Dixon first tried to use his taser to subdue Powers, but it didn’t stop him. That’s when Powers shot Dixon.
The officer was airlifted to Saint Mary’s hospital in West Virginia, where we are told he is in stable condition.
Police say Powers barricaded himself inside a home after the shooting leading to a standoff that lasted into this morning. A state police special response team was able to get into the home and arrest Powers.
He is currently being treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and has been charged with the attempted murder of a police officer.

A police officer is shot, leading to a standoff with the suspect in Floyd County.
It started Tuesday in Prestonsburg just after 9:30 p.m.
Kentucky State Police say they were called following the shooting of a Prestonsburg police officer.
Troopers say the officer was in a pursuit with the suspect.
That suspect got out of a car and started running.
Police say the officer was shot during the foot pursuit.
The officer was airlifted to Saint Mary’s hospital in West Virginia, where authorities say he is in stable condition.
State police say the suspect barricaded himself inside a home on Abbott Creek after the shooting, leading to a standoff.
That standoff is still going on.
State police are asking the public to avoid the area.
