Unsettled weather pattern hangs tough the next few days
Look for more scattered showers and locally heavy downpours
After a weekend that felt straight out of July—with warm, muggy air and scattered storms that brought downpours and even a few flooding issues—Monday brought more of the same for Central and Eastern Kentucky. That upper-level energy from the weekend finally began shifting east, but a new wave started working in from the southwest. That added just enough instability to spark a few more storms, though most of us just enjoyed a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the mid-80s.
More Rain and Storms on the Way Tuesday
As we head into Tuesday, that southwest wave continues to lift through the Ohio Valley, and it’s bringing a better chance for organized showers and storms. With Gulf moisture still streaming in, any storm that pops could produce heavy rainfall and lead to localized flooding—so it’s worth keeping the rain gear close by. Temperatures will still be warm, topping out in the low 80s, but the added cloud cover should help keep things from feeling quite as hot.
Midweek Brings a Brief Lull, Then a Stronger Storm Threat
Storm chances don’t go away midweek, but they may become a bit more scattered on Wednesday. As that next system gears up, we’ll see highs surge back into the mid- to upper 80s with a gusty southwest breeze setting up ahead of a strong cold front. That front could arrive as early as Wednesday night or early Thursday, and it will bring with it the potential for more widespread storms—some of which could be strong or even severe. We’ll be watching this closely, especially with strong wind gusts being a possibility. Highs Thursday will hold in the low 80s as that front slowly clears.
Summer Solstice Arrives with Sunshine and Heat
The Summer Solstice officially arrives Friday at 10:41 PM ET, and right on cue, Mother Nature looks ready to deliver summer heat and sunshine. Behind Thursday’s front, drier air will move in, making for a great setup heading into the weekend. Highs Friday and into the weekend will climb into the upper 80s, possibly flirting with 90 degrees, but with lower humidity—at least temporarily—it’ll be a more comfortable kind of heat. After a soggy stretch, we’ll finally get a break with several dry, summerlike days ahead.
