Unseasonably warm temperatures hang tight a few more days
It should remain dry on Thursday before the rain chances ramp up into the weekend
It was another delightful day across Central and Eastern Kentucky on Wednesday as high pressure dominated once again. With a nice southwest breeze and less in the way of high clouds, afternoon temperatures surged into the upper 70s in most locations, so it felt more like late September across the area.
Expect more of the same on Thursday as a few more higher clouds build into the area ahead of a weakening frontal boundary to our northwest. Winds out of the south should be strong enough to push afternoon highs back into the mid-70s and overcome the cloudiness. Of course if we see some additional bonus sunshine, temperatures could overachieve once more.
It now appear the frontal system will get close enough on Friday and Saturday to produce a few scattered showers, even with the front weakening out and diminishing into the weekend. The best chances for rain still look to be along and north of I-64 but if you have any outdoor plans on Saturday, take the rain gear along to be on the safe side. This includes the Kentucky/Tennessee game out at Kroger Field Saturday evening at 7:00pm. While it shouldn’t rain the entire game, a shower can’t be ruled out with temperatures in the upper 60s, which is not too shabby for the end of October.
Our best rain chances will be Sunday and especially Monday as a stronger secondary front pushes into the region. This system should produce some widespread soaking rainfall, which we desperately need given the on-going drought situation. Much of the data is indicating a solid 1″-2″ rainfall over the area, which would be great news. We’ll also see a legitimate shot of much cooler air behind the front as temperatures take a tumble late Sunday with highs only in the low 50s to begin next week. The coldest air of the season arrives for Halloween and to begin November with highs only in the 40s and lows in the upper 20s so we could see a hard freeze early next week. Plan on dressing the kiddos warmly for trick-or-treating on Tuesday night.
