Unseasonably mild air across the commonwealth this week
Afternoon highs should run into the mid-70s most days, which is well above average for late October
It was a frosty start to Monday across Central and Eastern Kentucky with many outlying areas seeing the frost legitimate frost of the season. Temperatures dipped into the low to mid-30s with Lexington metro sticking in the upper 30s. Despite the cold start, full afternoon sunshine help push afternoon highs into the upper 60s and low 70s. This upward trend in our temperatures is set to continue this weekend with a nice start of late October weather on the way.
As high pressure settles to the east on Tuesday, a return flow out of the south will pick up and combined with more expected sunshine help drive afternoon highs into the mid 70s across the board. It should be quite as chilly to start the morning on Tuesday thanks to a southeast wind and a few high clouds but you’ll still need the light jacket with readings in the upper 40s to around 50 degrees early.
High pressure will settle over the Mid-Atlantic and prevent a slow moving cold front in the Central Plains from moving east into the Ohio Valley. While we should stay dry through the mid-week, a few more clouds can be expected, which will help level our temperatures out into the mid-70s for afternoon highs. Nothing to complain about considering that’s about 10 degrees above average for this time in October.
We are looking at a few scattered light showers Friday as the aforementioned front weakens out but gets close enough to produce some rain. Even with the showers around, afternoon highs should run into the mid to upper 70s for highs so it will be a nice finish the week.
The model data continues to trend a bit drier for the weekend with the best chance of any showers north of the I-64 corridor on Saturday and Sunday. This would be great news for all the fall festivals and of course the big game with Kentucky and Tennessee at Kroger Field Saturday night at 7pm. With the mild temperatures remaining, it should be a nice night as afternoon highs continue to hang in the mid to upper 70s.
A more legitimate wave of energy will finally push a more significant boundary into the area next week, not only bringing some very beneficial rain chances but also some legitimately chilly days as we hit Halloween and kick of the month of November.
