Tranquil and pleasant weather continues into the mid-week

Despite some chilly mornings, afternoon highs will climb well above average the next few days.

It was a beautiful start to the week across Central and Eastern Kentucky on Monday with full sunshine, cloud free skies and afternoon highs climbing back into the mid-50s! That was some accomplishment given the very cold temperatures most folks woke up to early Monday. Most locations started the day into the mid to upper 20s, which is even below average for this time in March. But the combo of the sunshine and a southwest wind helped temperatures along nicely through the day.

High pressure will continue to dominate heading into Tuesday providing another delightful later winter day here in the commonwealth. After starting the day in the mid-30s (so the heavier coat will be needed again) expect more sunshine and the continued southwest breeze so afternoon highs will surge all the way into the mid-60s!

Tg Futurecast

An upper level system will slide by just to our north into the early hours of Wednesday but other than a stray shower, we should be rain-free. Temperatures will continue to climb toward the 70 degree mark and should reach it and eclipse it into Wednesday and Thursday. With some energy just to our west, a stray shower or storm can’t be ruled out but best rain chances will hold off until the end of the week.

With a wave of low pressure sliding through the region on Friday, get set for a wet and stormy finish to the week. Temperatures will cool down with all the clouds and rain around from the low 70s to the low 60s. Clouds should linger to begin the weekend as we’ll be in between systems before a secondary wave to our south brings additional rain chances on Sunday for St. Patrick’s Day. Afternoon highs should remain in the low 60s through the weekend with some decent rainfall totals possible by the end of Sunday (1″+ totals) with the 2 expected storm systems later in the period.
