Expect delays for UK vs Auburn game
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Anticipated traffic problems didn’t slow fans from piling into the area around Commonwealth Stadium for the Cats match-up against Auburn.
Cars, trucks and RVs were packed into the CWS parking lots leading up to Thursday’s game. However, it wasn’t only fans walking around the stadium. Hours before CWS opened its gates, Lexington Police held roll call at the corner of Cooper and University drives.
Lt. Chad Bacon said from that roll call, officers dispersed throughout campus to their respective assignments. That includes traffic control, and Lexington Police weren’t alone. Officers from departments around central Kentucky offered help moving vehicles through Alumni Drive, the main route to CWS.
Heading into Thursday night’s game, police advised fans to plan their trips a few hours early to avoid expected backups on Tate’s Creek, Nicholasville, Alumni and Broadway. At one point, officers said outbound traffic on Broadway was slowing and they adjusted in order to keep it moving.
Look for slowed traffic after the game as well. Police say they’ll be on campus throughout the night, directing drivers.
