Temperatures will be on the rise into the late week

A spotty shower can't be ruled out Thursday but it looks mainly dry

After a round of stormy weather to kick off the week, we were rewarded with a gorgeous Wednesday across Central and Eastern Kentucky. Sunshine dominated the skies, winds stayed light, and temperatures rebounded nicely with most spots climbing back into the low-60s by late afternoon. While that’s still slightly cooler than average for mid-April, it felt great with all the sunshine around.

Warmer Days Ahead

With clear skies and light winds, especially in Eastern Kentucky overnight temperatures could drop into the mid-30s in the sheltered valley areas so a Frost Advisory is out for that part of the state. As we head into Thursday, a warm front will begin to approach from the west. This will increase cloud cover through the day, and while a few spotty showers may develop, most of us will stay dry. The warming trend continues, too, with highs reaching into the upper 60s by Thursday afternoon. Once that warm front lifts north on Friday, we’ll be tapping into a more summer-like air mass. Highs will surge into the upper 70s to close out the workweek under partly sunny skies.

Easter Weekend Turning Unsettled

While temperatures stay quite warm into the weekend, unfortunately, our weather won’t be able to hold onto the quiet stretch. A slow-moving cold front will drop into the region and stall, bringing scattered showers and storms off and on from Saturday into early next week. The best chance for rain and thunderstorms looks to set up along and north of the I-64 corridor where the front is expected to linger. The Storm Prediction Center has already outlined parts of Central and Northern Kentucky for a risk of strong to severe storms on Saturday, so we’ll be watching that closely.

The front should sag southward slightly on Sunday before lifting north again Monday as another low pressure system moves in. That will keep the storm chances going into early next week. Rainfall totals won’t be extreme, but there could be some brief heavy downpours and gusty storms at times.

Looking Ahead

By Tuesday, we may catch a brief break in the action with slightly cooler and drier air moving in. However, the pattern doesn’t stay quiet for long—more rain chances could be on the way by the middle of next week as yet another system approaches.
