Temperatures moderate with quiet weather into the mid-week

Afternoon highs should surge back into the 50s.
After an early preview of the winter season to begin the week with light snow, cold temperatures and slick roadways, the unseasonably chilly air stuck around for Veterans Day across Central and Eastern Kentucky. Temperatures were in the low 20s to start the day and it felt even colder with a brisk west wind in place. A weak wave of energy kept some cloudiness around but shifting winds to the southwest did help push highs into the low 40s by the afternoon although it still felt rather cold with the wind knocking the wind chills down into the 30s.

We are set-up for a quiet mid-week with moderating temperatures thanks to a southwest breeze pushing milder air back into the Ohio Valley. Temperatures won’t fall much into the early hours of Wednesday with the steady west to southwest wind in place so look for mid to upper 30s out the door on Wednesday. With plenty of sunshine around, it should be a pleasant afternoon with temperatures jumping back into the mid to upper 50s. It will remain breezy through the day with winds gusting over 20 miles per hour at times.

A weak frontal system will drop through the region and be off to our southeast heading into Thursday so we may trim a few degrees off of afternoon highs with most locations reaching the mid-50s. This is just slightly below average for mid-November so the pleasant conditions should remain in place. Closing out the week on Friday a mid-level wave looks to slide through the Ohio Valley and while most spots should be rain-free, a sprinkle or a passing shower can’t be ruled out. It looks to be a better evening for round 2 of the high school football playoffs.

A warm front should push through the commonwealth as we kick off the weekend, setting us up for a delightful Saturday. With a good bit of sunshine around and a breezy southwest wind, look for afternoon highs to surge into the upper 60s across the board. It will be a delightful day for any outdoor activities including the final home game of the 2025 season as Kentucky takes on Tennessee Tech out at Kroger Field with a 1:30 pm kickoff. The model data isn’t synced up with the timing of several waves of energy rotating eastward possibly Sunday and into early next week but it appears we’ll be looking at a return of a few scattered showers to end the weekend. A more organized system may be a higher end chance of showers late Monday and into Tuesday so the rain gear could get a workout again during that window.
