Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Happy Thursday! We have one final day of our summer-like temperature pattern on the way today. After a comfortable start to the day, temperatures will climb into the low 80s by the afternoon hours under mostly sunny skies. However, this warmth will lead to late evening and overnight storms.

0418 Today Forecast

A line of strong-to-severe storms will be moving through region late this evening and will impact our area during the overnight hours. The ABC 36 Viewing Area is under a Level 1 Severe Risk, mainly due to the damaging wind gust threat as the line moves through. Frequent lightning and a period of heavy rain will be possible as the line moves through as well. The severe threat increases the further west that you go. The Level 2 Severe Risk starts at the I-65 corridor, while areas west of Evansville, IN and Paducah have a Level 3 Severe Risk. There may be changes to our severe threat throughout the day, so stay with us for more updates.

0418 Severe Threat

After the strong line of storms moves through, we will be left with lingering rain showers early in the day on Friday. Most of the showers will be confined to eastern Kentucky and should exit by the afternoon hours. Temperatures take a hit on Friday as well. Afternoon highs will struggle to reach the mid-to-upper 60s for most of the area.

0418 Temp Trend

Temperatures continue to drop heading into the weekend. Afternoon highs on Saturday will be in the upper 50s and low 60s, while temps on Sunday may stay in the mid-to-upper 50s for most of the area. A weak system moves just to our south on Saturday. This will give far southern Kentucky a light shower chance early in the day on Saturday. The rest of the weekend looks dry, just cooler for everyone else.

Overnight lows Saturday night and Sunday night will fall into the upper 30s in a lot of areas. Monday morning will likely feature the coldest temperatures. Frost could be possible in some areas with mid-30s in the forecast for some. Rain chances will return by Tuesday into Wednesday of next week as well.

Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
