State launches new assistance application portal
FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) is launching a new self-service web portal where citizens can apply for assistance.
The online service, called benefind, is the access point for Kentuckians to apply for programs like Medicaid, the Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance Program, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food benefits, and Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP), or cash assistance.
The benefind web portal lets busy families apply or update information on their own schedules from any computer with internet access.
“With a one-stop spot like benefind, families across the Commonwealth can create an account and access it 24/7,” said CHFS Secretary Vickie Yates Brown Glisson. “For customers and eligibility staff, benefind is truly modernizing the registration and data management process.”
Furthermore, Secretary Glisson said the technology behind benefind comprehensively enhances the application system.
“This new website will streamline workload management for staff and help them verify submissions in real time,” she said. “benefind will increase accuracy, efficiency and program integrity. And for customers, it makes it easier for families to get answers to their questions and ultimately get better access to help.”
Some assistance, including SNAP and KTAP, will still require an interview with county staff of the Department for Community Based Services, the CHFS agency that administers eligibility for these programs.
Through benefind, customers can also renew benefits, check benefit amounts, report changes, upload verification documents, check claim status, make claim payments and receive electronic notices.
The service launched Monday, Feb. 29.
Customers can still apply for services by phone, by visiting their local DCBS office or submitting paper applications.
