Scam Targeting Blue Grass Energy Customers
According to Blue Grass Energy, the scammer will call, claiming to be with the company. They tell the victim that their electric bill is late and their service will be cut off if it isn’t paid immediately.
The caller then tells the customer to buy a prepaid debit card and call back with the card’s numbers in order to pay the bill.
Once the scammer has this information, they will take the money and can no longer be found due to a falsified caller ID.
The fake ID makes it appear that the call is actually coming from Blue Grass Energy.
BGE said it will never tell anyone to pay their bill with a prepaid debit card and will try to make several contacts about an overdue bill before sending out a final written notice.
If you feel that you have been a victim of this call, you may contact Blue Grass Energy at 888-546-4243 and report the scam to State Police at 1-800-222-5555.
BGE urges anyone who may receive this call to not dial the false number.
