SCAM ALERT: Don’t fall for bogus Laurel Co. Lieutenant

LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) -The Laurel Co. Sheriff is alerting residents in the area to beware of a phone scam being perpetrated by someone claiming to be with the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Sheriff, the caller identifies himself as Lieutenant Mark Richardson, and tells his intended victim that they have missed a jury court date.

The bogus Lieutenant then asks that the call recipient put money on prepaid credit cards to pay a fine.

The Sheriff says this is a scam, that there is no one working at the Sheriff’s Office with that name, and that the Sheriff’s Office doesn’t work that way.

He is asking that if anyone receives a call to write down any information they can get, and contact the Sheriff’s Office at (606) 864-6600.

The Sheriff says they are actively investigating the case.
