Scam Alert: Bogus IRS calls reported in Laurel County
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is warning people about a reported phone scam. It says the caller pretends to work for the Internal Revenue Service. The scammer says money is owed to the IRS, and threatens legal action if it’s not paid. According to deputies, the caller also adds that the IRS could take away the potential victim’s house or car, and threatens to have the person arrested.
The sheriff’s office says, "If anyone receives similar phone calls, they should either disregard the call and not answer it, or if they answer it hang up on the caller, and definitely do not send any money, or give out any information to these people. The IRS only corresponds by mail."
