SCAM ALERT: Berea PD warn of bogus “officer” call
BEREA, Ky. (WTVQ) – Police in Berea are warning residents of a phone scam that was reported to them.
The call recipient told police that someone claiming to be a police officer called her, saying that her son had been arrested and that her grandson was at the police station.
Officers say the bogus caller then told the woman she would need to get $4,000.00 in iTunes gift cards to get her son out of jail. According to police, the caller even put a small child on the phone, who claimed to be the woman’s grandson.
Berea police are urging all residents to be on the lookout for this scam, or anything similar, and are advising anyone receiving a call like this to not give away any information.
