Refreshing Weekend Wraps Up Before Storm Chances Return
Cooler, drier air made for a pleasant Saturday, but humidity and scattered storms are set to creep back in by Sunday and into next week
A Picture-Perfect Start to the Weekend
We couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off the first weekend of August! A cool, refreshing northeast breeze kept humidity in check Saturday, and high pressure anchored over the Great Lakes helped deliver a dose of fall-like air to the region. With morning lows dipping into the upper 50s and low 60s and highs reaching the upper 70s and low 80s, it was a perfect day to get outside. If you’ve got weekend plans, Saturday was just the beginning of a pleasant stretch.
Humidity Creeps Back In for Sunday, Along With a Few Storms
Sunday still looks nice, but we’ll start to notice a slight uptick in moisture as high pressure shifts east and flow turns more southeasterly. That means the mugginess will slowly build back in—especially across southern and southeastern Kentucky. A few isolated to scattered showers and storms could pop up during the afternoon, with the best chances from Lake Cumberland eastward. These won’t be widespread washouts, and northern areas, especially across southern Indiana, should stay dry. Highs will range from the upper 70s to mid 80s, depending on cloud cover and any passing storms.
More Typical August Weather Returns Next Week
After our brief break from the heat and humidity, the pattern next week will start to feel a bit more familiar. A slow-moving upper low and steady return of Gulf moisture will bring back daily storm chances, mainly during the afternoon and early evening hours. While we’re not expecting severe weather, any storms that develop could be slow-moving with heavy rain and lightning. Temperatures will gradually warm back to mid and upper 80s, with humidity climbing as well. By late week, it could feel downright steamy again—but not quite as intense as the recent heat wave.
