Quiet weather with milder temperatures heading into the mid-week

After a quick reminder we are still in winter over the weekend, pleasant conditions are on tap the next few days

It turned out to be a beautiful Presidents Day across Central and Eastern Kentucky with plenty of sunshine and afternoon highs topping out in the low-50s. This was a welcomed change after the tough reminder that we are still in February this past weekend with the light snow cover into Saturday and early morning lows quite cold in the upper teens and low 20s.With all the cold air in place early Monday morning wee saw some frosty conditions which made for a beautiful close-up shot of the frost crystals from Ellen Stanley Sears.

Our roller coaster ride of weather and temperatures will continue into the mid-week as readings climb and we see a touch of spring-like air once again! With a broad area of low pressure across the eastern part of the country, a light south flow will be in place on Tuesday so this should have a positive impact on temperatures and conditions. A weak mid-level wave could produce a few scattered clouds but otherwise we are set-up for a nice Tuesday with more sunshine and highs even milder into the mid and upper 60s.

Heading into the mid and late week, our next storm system will approach from the west allowing a strong southwest wind to increase. Not only will this bring milder air into the region with highs surging into the low to mid-60s, it will also produce wind gusts of 35 to 40 miles per hour on Wednesday so keep that in mind. The main system arrives on Thursday with rain and even a few thunderstorms as the spring-like air hangs tough despite the clouds and rain around.

It should be slightly cooler Friday with highs in the 50s as we dry out with the beginning of the weekend still in question. Some of the model data is trying to push a mid-level wave south through the region on Saturday which would increase the shower chances but we’ve still got a few days to keep an eye on that. Mid-level wave of not, temperatures should yet again rebound into the 60s heading into week of February.
