Quiet June weather kicks in for the mid-week

Enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures the next few days

After days of dodging downpours and tracking thunderstorms, Tuesday finally delivered a much-needed weather break across Central and Eastern Kentucky. Sunshine took center stage thanks to high pressure settling into the Ohio Valley, bringing in drier, more pleasant air. Temperatures climbed into the upper 70s with a light west breeze, making for a truly delightful day to be outside.

The only minor hiccup? Some elevated haze from Canadian wildfire smoke drifting overhead. It muted the sunshine a bit at times, but didn’t affect air quality or bring anything more than a hazy look to the sky.

Fantastic Midweek Weather on Tap

As we move into midweek, the quiet and comfortable pattern continues. High pressure stays in control, keeping skies mostly sunny and our air dry through Thursday. Temperatures will be on the upswing, reaching the low 80s Wednesday—right on target for early June. A bit of haze could linger aloft due to more wildfire smoke, but it should remain more cosmetic than impactful.

By Thursday, that high pressure ridge begins to shift east, allowing for a slight uptick in warmth. Afternoon highs will climb into the mid to upper 80s, with sunshine continuing to dominate. Overall, this stretch of weather is about as good as it gets for this time of year—warm but not humid, and storm-free.

Changes Arrive Late Week into Father’s Day Weekend

Starting Friday, we begin to transition back to a more unsettled pattern. Moisture from the Gulf will surge northward, making the air feel stickier and more humid. At the same time, an upper-level system approaches from the northwest, sparking a chance for isolated to scattered showers and storms late in the day. Many areas will likely stay dry Friday, but it’s the first signal of a more active pattern brewing.

Tg Muggy

By the weekend, rain and storm chances tick up significantly, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. While it won’t rain all day, any outdoor plans for Father’s Day weekend should include a backup option and the rain gear. The storms could pack heavy downpours and potentially a few strong to severe cells, thanks to the warm, humid environment.

Even with the rain chances, temperatures should remain summer-like, holding in the low to mid-80s, with overnight lows in the upper 60s. This muggy, stormy pattern could linger into early next week.
