Quiet fall weather set to roll on into the mid-week

Afternoon highs should stay well into the 60s the next few days before our rain chances return by Friday

Despite some filtered sunshine due to some high level clouds drifting in from the south, it was another pleasant day Tuesday across Central and Eastern Kentucky. We saw enough influence from high pressure over the Ohio Valley to keep things tranquil and quiet. The combination of a light east wind and the less than full sunshine knocked our afternoon highs back slightly into the upper 50s and low 60s but it was still a very nice day for this time of the year.

Above average temperatures will be the rule through the mid-week as high pressure drifts eastward allowing a return flow to pick up out of the south. With more sunshine in store along with the southerly wind, afternoon highs should jump back into the mid-60s with a few spots even sneaking into the upper 60s. These temperatures are a solid 10 degrees plus above where we should be for mid-November so enjoy it.

Tg Futurecast With Temperature

Our best day should be Thursday as temperatures surge into the upper 60s ahead of an approaching cold front to our northwest. As the front drops down into the Ohio Valley and through the commonwealth, our rain chances will ramp up nicely heading into Friday. The model data is trending wetter for Friday, especially into Eastern Kentucky which is great news considering the on-going drought and the elevated forest fire situation/danger there as well. Most locations should pick up around a half inch of rain with some spots seeing closer to 1″ totals. We’ll definitely take what we can get.

The weekend looks cooler and quiet with cool sunshine and afternoon highs in the upper 40s and low 50s. Heading into the Thanksgiving week next week, we should start off dry on Monday before we keep an eye on another storm system that should impact the Ohio Valley on Tuesday and points eastward on the big travel day next Wednesday. At this point it doesn’t look impactful with a legitimate rain chance but of course we are a week away so we’ll watch this closely in the coming days.
