Quick hitting showers then dry into the late week
Most of the rain should fall during the overnight hours into early Wednesday with dry conditions during the day
We enjoyed a pleasant spring day Tuesday across Central and Eastern Kentucky with a strong southwest breeze pushing afternoon highs into the upper 60s and low 70s. After full sunshine across the board, mid to high level clouds built in from northwest to southeast through the late afternoon putting the brakes on our warm-up. These clouds are associated with a fast moving and fairly week frontal system that will bring a few showers to the area during the early hours of Wednesday. This system will be in and out in short order so rainfall totals should be fairly light. Luckily our weather should improve rapidly and we should see more beautiful spring weather the next few days.
A few clouds could potentially linger into the morning hours of Wednesday as the front exits to the southeast but drier air should be building in the deeper we get into Wednesday. Expect mainly sunny skies through the afternoon hours with a light northwest wind holding our temperatures down slightly. Highs should reach the mid-60s in most locations, which is just a few degrees below average for this time of the year.
Heading into the late week our weather should stay tranquil for Thursday with more sunshine and afternoon highs into the mid to upper 60sw as a northeast wind slows down the warming process. Our next system arrives as we close out the week Friday with a warm front sliding in from the southwest. This will do a couple of things: Increase our rain and thunder chances on Friday but also be the leading edge of much warmer air just in time for the upcoming weekend.
We’ll get a nice dose of summer-like weather in late April this weekend as a strong southwest flow pushes some unseasonably warm air into the region. Afternoon highs should surge into the low 80s both Saturday and Sunday. The winds that will help the warm-up should be strong at times with gusts over 30 to 35 miles per hour both days so keep that in mind. While much of the area should remain dry over the weekend, there is a low-end storm chance both days thanks to a slow moving cold front out to the west. This system will eventually move into the Ohio Valley early next week with better rain and storm chances on Monday.
