Punxsutawney Phil: More winter ahead

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (WTVQ Social) – Punxsutawney Phil made his annual weather prediction this morning in Pennsylvania, and the outlook isn’t good for fans of an early spring.  According to his official handlers, Punxsutawney Phil did see a shadow, meaning six more weeks of winter.

Since the groundhog’s first prediction in 1887, Phil has seen his shadow 101 times, compared to only 17 times when he did not see it.  The National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says Groundhog Day originated as an ancient celebration of the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox.
