Police: Counterfeit Currency Suspect Arrested in Lexington
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- A Versailles man is behind bars after police say he was passing counterfeit currency in Lexington.
According to the Lexington Police, Christopher Bentley had been passing “Russian Novelty Notes” as genuine currency at local retail stores.
Police say he was purchasing merchandise and gift cards.
Lexington Police were notified after Bentley came into a Lexington Bank to open a checking account, attempting to commit new account fraud, according to investigators.
Police say Bentley is charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged instrument 1st degree and Theft by Deception $500/$10,000.
