Pleasant weather continues to close out the week
Look for another round of summer-like air by the end of the weekend
It was a delightful Thursday across Central and Eastern Kentucky as more spring-like air poured back into the region. After starting the morning with more comfortable temperatures into the low-50s (especially compared to the chilly 30s the last several days), we saw plenty of sunshine around along with breezy southwest winds. This combination helped push afternoon highs into the mid-70s making for ideal conditions to be outdoors for any length of time.
The nice weather will roll along as we close out the week on Friday. Despite a frontal boundary laying just to our northwest, we should be set up for another mostly sunny day. Winds will continue to be breezy out of the southwest, which will help bring some additional spring-like air into the region so afternoon highs should bump up a few degrees into the upper 70s in most spots. We could see a few high clouds begin to build in by sunset but it should be a dandy day from start to finish.
The front will weaken out as it drops into the commonwealth to kick off the weekend so a few scattered showers will be possible into the early hours of Saturday, especially for areas west of Lexington. Overall Saturday looks good as the front will be losing steam and it won’t have much moisture to work with. Outdoor plans should be good to go as most locations see a partly sunny afternoon with just a few isolated showers possible but those will be few and far between. The combination of some morning clouds around and the weak front draped over the area may hold temperatures back a few degrees even with some afternoon sunshine back around, so expect highs generally in the low to mid-70s. Sunday looks like the pick day of the weekend as the boundary lifts back to the north as a warm front, allowing another round of summer-like air to return to the commonwealth. With plenty of sunshine around, afternoon highs will surge into the low to mid-80s so it will be a fantastic day for any outdoor plans you have on your calendar.
A wave of low pressure looks to ride along another frontal boundary out to our west to begin next week so we are looking at a few scattered showers and storms possible to begin the week as that system slides through the Ohio Valley. It will still be an unseasonably warm Monday with highs into the upper 70s. A broad area of high pressure sitting off the east coast should hold the front in the Central Plains in check just enough to keep things mainly dry and very warm heading into the middle of next week. Afternoon highs could reach record levels yet again with mid-80s on the table along with daily low-end storm chances. As we get deeper in the week, the front may creep close enough to increase the storm chances a bit as the summer-like air stays in place.
