Opening statements will begin Tuesday in Trinity Gay trial
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The trial for the four men charged in the fatal shooting of Trinity Gay began Monday.
Chazerae Me’Lon Taylor Sr., 40, is charged with murder. His son, 21-year-old D’Markeo Taylor is charged with wanton endangerment in connection with the shooting, as well as defendants 22-year-old Lamonte Williams and D’Vonta 23-year-old Middlebrooks.
The defense attorneys for Chazara Taylor say the jury selection is complete and opening statements will begin Tuesday morning.
Police say Gay was shot in the neck at a Cookout location on South Broadway back in October of 2016. They say she was caught in the crossfire during a shootout.
Trinity Gay is the daughter of Olympic sprinter Tyson Gay. Trinity Gay’s parents started a nonprofit in her name called Trinity Gay Incorporated. The nonprofit helps young people achieve excellence in school, athletics and life.
