Number of recovered again tops new COVID cases in Fayette

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The ebb and flow of new coronavirus cases and people who have recovered in Fayette County continued during the weekend with a slight move toward signs the spike maybe leveling off.
According to the morning report from the Lexington Fayette County Health Department, 177 — 88 Saturday ad 89 Sunday — new coronavirus cases were confirmed during the weekend. That followed 124 cases Friday.
That brings the county’s total since March 8 to 7,871.
Of the news cases since Thursday, 142 have been University of Kentucky students, bringing the number of Fayette County UK students to 1,801.
Since Thursday, 352 people have recovered, lifting that total to 6,675.
No new deaths were reported, meaning 71 county residents have died from coronavirus-related causes.
The number of people recovered topped the number of new cases for only the fifth time in the last three weeks. And the number of new cases being below 100 marked the sixth time in the last nine days.

It’s important people continue to follow the latest recommendations in public to stop the spread of the virus:

• Wear a cloth mask over your mouth and nose

• Stay at least 6 feet away from anyone who doesn’t live in your home

• Wash your hands often.
