More rain and storms are on the horizon for the late week
You'll need the rain gear again by late Thursday and into Friday
The mid-week was cool and dreary across Central and Eastern Kentucky in the wake of an area of low pressure that brought wet weather and quite a temperature spread across the commonwealth on Tuesday. After starting out the day rather foggy with reduced visibility, the low clouds hung tough from start to finish. With a light northeast wind in place, afternoon highs generally underperformed with much of the area seeing temperatures topping out in the upper 40s in the Bluegrass with another gradient to the south with low to mid-60s in that part of the state. The low clouds were most prominent across Central Kentucky and managed to squeeze out some nuisance patchy drizzle through the afternoon, which just added to the gloomy day.
The active weather pattern will stay in place heading into Thursday as the next wave of low pressure and associated frontal boundary move in from the west. The first half of the day should be dry before a few scattered showers return later in the afternoon so plan on taking the rain gear along once again as it may come in handy by the end of the day. Once again sunshine will be at a premium with mostly cloudy skies expected and afternoon highs hopefully recovering into the mid to upper 50s.
It should be a wet finish to the week as the next in a series of disturbances slides through the Ohio Valley. With plenty of moisture feeding in from the south, Friday looks like a damp and dreary day with pockets of steady rain on tap for much of the day. While we could see a few thunderstorms in the mix as well, the overall threat for any strong storms appears to be pretty low at this point. The wet weather should have an impact on the 3rd week of high school football playoffs so keep that in mind for Friday evening. The last wave of energy will be on the way out to begin the weekend so look for a few additional showers on Saturday morning before the rain chances ramp down as we get deeper into the afternoon. Without a big push of cooler air behind the departing system, temperatures should be decent with afternoon highs remaining in the upper 50s and low 60s.
High pressure is forecast to slide into the Ohio Valley as we finish out the weekend so a return of some much needed sunshine looks to be on the way during that window. If you have outdoor plans this weekend then Sunday should be your day thanks to mostly sunny skies expected and afternoon highs right around 60 degrees, which is a few degrees above average for this time of the year. Kicking off Thanksgiving week Monday a few clouds may return as the next storm system draws a little closer to the region. The data isn’t synced up on the timing at this point so it;s possible a shower or two could sneak in late Monday but the better chances appear to be in the Tuesday/Wednesday time frame next week. There is also a hint of more cold air and possibly some wintry weather heading toward the holiday so stay tuned!
