More nice weather on the way late week
Afternoon highs will reach the mid-80s with plenty of sunshine
Our quiet stretch of weather rolled along nicely across Central and Eastern Kentucky Wednesday as a strong area of high pressure provided us with another nice day from start to finish. After starting the morning pleasantly cool with temperatures in the low-50s, the full sunshine through the day along with a light east wind helped push afternoon highs right around the 80 degree mark and it felt fantastic to be outside given the dry air and low humidity levels.
Look for a repeat performance heading into Thursday as the area of high pressure settles just to our east. This will allow light winds to shift around to the south which should help to push even warmer air into the region. With plenty of sunshine on tap once again, afternoon highs should jump a few degrees into the low to mid-80s, which is pretty close to average for this time of year.
Closing out the week on Friday it should feel more like summer as the southwest flow begins to bring a bit more moisture and humidity back into the commonwealth. Overall our weather will continue to be pretty fantastic with more sunshine and warm temperatures but you should notice a slight uptick in the muggy air. Heading into Saturday we should be in good shape for any outdoor weekend plans with more sunshine and afternoon highs in the mid-80s. Given the increase in humidity, it should feel a little less comfortable so just keep that in mind for any strenuous activities during the warmest part of the day but overall it looks to be a nice early June weekend day.
A weak front off to our northwest will drift southeastward as we close out the weekend Sunday so scattered showers and storms will re enter the picture following our extended stretch of dry weather. It doesn’t look to be a wash-out by any means but you’ll likely have to dodge a few showers on occasion if you are going to be out and about. Given the warmth and humidity around, anything that pops up could have some locally heavy downpours and much of the activity will be driven by the afternoon warmth as highs remain in the mid-80s. The boundary will hang over the region and eventually drift to our south into early next week so some additional scattered showers and a few storms will remain in play during that window as the summer warmth continues.
