More mild air to close out the fall season Thursday
Afternoon highs will continue to run above average heading into the holiday weekend
It was another frosty start to the day on Wednesday across Central and Eastern Kentucky with early morning lows dipping down into the low 20ws. But with high pressure in control and just to our southeast, mostly sunny skies combined with a light south wind help temperatures recover into the upper 40s and low 50s. This upward trend of temperatures will continue as we close out fall and head into the winter season officially to end the week.
A weak system to our northwest with throw a few scattered clouds our way on Thursday but afternoon highs should stay nice with most locations reaching the low 50s. The winter solstice occurs at 10:27 pm Eastern time Thursday evening, which officially welcomes the winter season here in North America. It’s the day where we typically the least amount of daylight before we start adding to the overall daylight slowly but surely as we go through the winter months.
It sure won’t feel like the the beginning of winter or the holiday season heading into the weekend and the milder air hangs tough across the region. A weak system should slide by just to our northwest bringing a few scattered showers to the area on Saturday but it shouldn’t be a wash-out. Highs will remain in the low to mid-50s.
It looks downright balmy for Christmas Eve with dry conditions and temperatures surging into the low 60s for highs! A more significant system will arrive just in time for Christmas so it looks wet for the holiday. Some legitimate rain is possible Monday and Tuesday with some locations seeing around 1″ plus rainfall totals so that would be fantastic news given the drought conditions around the area.
