More Humid Days Ahead with Scattered Storms in the Forecast

A quiet weekend gives way to a more active, summer-like weather pattern through midweek.

A Comfortable End to the Weekend

We wrapped up the weekend on a comfortable note across central and eastern Kentucky, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and much lower humidity than we’ve grown used to this time of year. The refreshing air mass we’ve been enjoying is gradually shifting, however, as high pressure begins to drift eastward. That shift will allow for a return flow to develop—meaning moisture and warmer temperatures are slowly creeping back in from the south.

As we head through the evening hours, scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will continue to pop up. With a very moist atmosphere in place, any heavier storms that develop could lead to localized flash flooding. If you’re out and about, keep an eye on the radar, but don’t let it stop you from enjoying the break from our typical early August heat.

More Rain Chances and Rising Humidity

Monday brings back a more typical summer feel. That increased moisture will fuel isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon and early evening. Not everyone will see rain, but where storms do form, they may be slow-moving and capable of producing heavy downpours. With rain-cooled air and more cloud cover, temperatures will stay a little below average again, generally topping out in the low to mid 80s.

Humidity levels will continue to rise from south to north as we move into the workweek, making it feel more summer-like again. While severe weather isn’t a big concern, any storm that develops could bring brief heavy rainfall and some lightning, so keep that in mind if you have outdoor plans.

A Summer-Like Pattern Through Midweek

The weather stays fairly unsettled through midweek as an upper-level disturbance lingers nearby. That will help keep scattered storms in the forecast each afternoon and early evening through Wednesday. Temperatures will remain seasonable, and we’ll start to see more of those muggy overnights and humid afternoons we associate with August.

By late week, rain chances will ease up a bit, and temperatures will warm back closer to normal for this time of year—upper 80s to near 90 heading into next weekend.
