Milder to end November with another rain chance on the horizon

After a cold start to the week, temperatures will continue to moderate into Thursday

Once again it felt more like the heart of winter instead of late November during the early hours of Wednesday as high pressure, clear skies and light winds set up optional conditions with some serious cooling! Most locations dropping well into the teens before temperatures went the other direction as a light south wind picked up toward daybreak. After the sun come up, winds picked up even more out of the southwest and that combined with full sunshine flipped the script big-time as afternoon highs surged back into upper 40s and low 50s so it was another day with a huge spread between early morning lows and afternoon highs.

With high pressure settling to our southeast on Thursday, expect a pleasant day as we wrap up the month of November! It shouldn’t be as cold Thursday morning with temperatures around freezing at daybreak before the southwest breeze kicks in nicely, which will help push afternoon highs into the mid to upper 50s! After some morning sunshine, high clouds should begin to drift in late day ahead of our next storm system.

It looks breezy and wet as we welcome December on Friday as a wave of low pressure spins right through the heart of the Ohio Valley. Of course we could use the rain given the on-going drought and we could see a decent soaker although the higher rainfall totals now look to remain just to our north. We’ll take what we can get and it appears most locations will pick up at least .50″ of rain with a few isolated spots seeing some higher totals. Highs should reach the mid-50s despite the clouds and rain, which is above average for this time of the year.

While much of the area will dry out heading into Saturday we can’t rule out an isolated shower or two to begin the weekend. The data continues to suggest several weaker waves of energy sliding through the region in the Sunday through Tuesday time frame. Of course the timing and placement is still a bit up in the air but at this point we’ll at least be dodging a few scattered showers from time to time during that window although it shouldn’t be a wash-out. Highs should remain in the 50s through Tuesday before we see a cooler shot of air heading into the middle of next week.
