Milder air on the way heading into the weekend
Afternoon highs should be around 70 degrees Saturday
It was another pleasant day of weather across Central and Eastern Kentucky on Thursday as high pressure settled into the Ohio Valley providing delightful conditions across the region. With plenty of sunshine around, afternoon highs reached the upper 50s and low 60s, which is slightly above average for this time of the year. Winds did finally back off a bit after several breezy days in a row, adding to the comfort factor.
A weak wave of energy in the mid levels will slide into the Ohio Valley on Friday, bringing some scattered cloud cover to the area along with the potential for a few sprinkles or a passing shower. It looks like most spots will remain dry but don’t be surprised if you feel a few raindrops if you are out and about. Afternoon highs look to top out into the low 60s and overall it should be a pleasant evening for round 2 of the high school football playoffs as the mid-level wave moves eastward heading into Friday night. However clouds will stick in place an a stray shower can’t be ruled out as a warm front follows suit for the overnight hours.
This weekend looks unseasonably mild to start as a southwest wind cranks up ahead of a fast moving cold front dropping into the Ohio Valley. With mostly sunny skies and winds gusting 20 to 25 miles per hour at times, temperatures should climb all the way to the 70 degree mark in many locations so it should be a fabulous day for any outdoor activities. The timing couldn’t be any better for Kentucky’s final home game of the 2025 season as the Cats take on Tennessee Tech at 1:30 pm Saturday over at Kroger Field. The aforementioned front will slide through Saturday night with a few spotty showers possible but what little activity we are expecting should be gone for Sunday so our weather should remain dry and pleasant as we close out the weekend.
Slightly cooler air will drift into the area to begin the week as a quick area of high pressure keeps things dry on Monday. Afternoon highs should be right around average for mid-November with mid-50s expected. A wave of low pressure will move in from the west Monday night and Tuesday with scattered showers returning to the area during that window. Our overall weather pattern will be a bit more active next week with the timing of additional showers (and a few storms potentially) still in question based on the latest data but at this point it appears the rain gear will be needed from time to time into the latter part of next week.
