Memorial held for man to plant first American flag on foreign soil

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A ceremony was held Saturday at the Frankfort Cemetery to honor the man who planted the very first American flag on foreign soil.

The Marine League of Kentucky, family members and members of the community came together to celebrate the life and accomplishments of LT Presley O’ Bannon who is buried in the Frankfort Cemetery.

Many in attendance believe he helped put the marine corps on the map, and were happy to honor his service and success.

In addition to serving in the United States Marine Corps, LT O’Bannon was also a representative and state senator for Kentucky.
